Former New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori and Victorian Andre Borovec have been appointed as assistant coaches of the Australian men's team. The pair will begin their terms under head coach Andrew McDonald ahead of the Test series in Sri Lanka with Borovec also coaching the 'A' team on their shadow tour of Sri Lanka.
Borovec and Vettori take up the two spots left vacant by the departing Jeff Vaughan, who has returned to Tasmania as the Tigers' Head Coach, and McDonald himself, who served as a deputy to former head coach Justin Langer.
Vettori, who recently served as a spin bowling consultant for Bangladesh on the international circuit, has coached under McDonald in the past for IPL side Royal Challengers Bangalore. The pair also played for the franchise previously. The veteran New Zealander worked in the Australian setup earlier this year during the white-ball leg of the Pakistan tour.
Borovec, who has no playing experience on the international level, is a reputed high performance coach who has previously worked with McDonald in the Victoria and Melbourne Renegades setups.
"Andre has been fantastic for the group when he has been involved as an extremely skilled and experienced high-performance coach. He is a great fit culturally and brings the skills to complement our high-performance specialists," McDonald said.
"I have worked with Daniel previously and could not speak more highly of his approach, work ethic and rapport he brings. His experience and balanced style are well documented. He is a great fit and will bring an enormous amount of knowledge to the team."
